Derek Thomas MP is joining forces with Helston’s Mayor and Cornwall Councillors to provide an opportunity for everyone in Helston to find out about help with the cost of living.
The Cost of Living Fair will give anyone concerned about rising prices access to a wealth of useful information, including practical advice, tips on saving energy or money, and what help and support is available to them.
Everyone who is concerned about the cost of living is welcome, as well as organisations and social enterprises who have responsibility for others who are concerned. The event will be hosted by Cllr Tim Gratton-Kane, Mayor of Helston, Cllr Guy Foreman (Helston South), Cllr Mike Thomas (Helston North) and Derek Thomas MP.
The Cost of Living Fair will have stands from a range of charities and businesses who can help with the rising cost of energy and food in particular, including Helston Welfare Trust, Citizens Advice Cornwall, Christians Against Poverty, Community Energy Plus, Farm Cornwall, Helston and the Lizard Foodbank, Helston Community Larder, Inclusion Cornwall, NatWest Bank, Western Power Distribution, Southwest Water, Transformation Cornwall, and Utilita Energy, as well as Helston Town Council and Derek’s office.
The Cost of Living Fair will be held at Helston Bowling Club on 16 September, from 1 pm until 4pm. Entry is completely free, and refreshments will be provided by volunteers from the Bowling Club.
Derek says:
“The rising cost of living is the biggest concern for my constituents, but it’s not always easy to find out what help or advice is out there.
“I’m delighted that so many great organisations have agreed to be proactive – coming to Helston to make that support available for everyone who wants to drop in.
“This is a new venture, but I am hoping to hold similar events at other towns in the constituency if people find it useful.”
