There's no straightforward or well-trodden path to return an NHS hospital to its local community but St Ives has done it!
Achieved only because of the extraordinary drive and determination of the League of Friends, GPs, St Ives Town Council, members of the Hain family, and others and the generosity of the people of St Ives.
None of us wanted to lose the Edward Hain Memorial Hospital.
Once the closure was decided a group was set up by myself and former Cllr Richard Robinson, which led to the building being used to provide some services for older people in the area.
This triggered the idea of a Community Health and Wellness Hub and today, having navigated the super complex issue of buying a building from NHS Property Service, the sale is complete!
I've been privileged to assist in a small way because I believe, as does everyone involved, that Edward Hain Community Hospital has many more years to give in service to the health and wellness of the people of St Ives and district and I look forward to working with the Trustees to bring the building back to full public service.
