MP’s Column

I met with the CEO of South West Water on Thursday. We discussed the need to bring down people’s water and waste-water charges further. I think this is realistic and is the right thing to do. I also wrote to the Chancellor asking that public toilets run by Parish and Town Councils be exempt from business rates as part of the rate review that is to take place. Thanks to Mullion Council for this suggestion.
I am tabling a question to the Secretary of State for Health this week.
Regarding the regeneration of Mounts Bay, I had an in-depth conversation with Council Officer Nigel Blackler, yesterday regarding the Council’s approach to this important assets and called in to Jonathan Burnett’s home today so he could brief me on the progress of the work Andrew George initiated in regards to a breakwater for Mount’s Bay.
Please accept that, whilst there is work being done to regenerate the Mount’s Bay area, this is not a quick fix. It will take time but the benefit to West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly will be considerable.
Please follow the lead of Mullion Council and let me know how you would like to improve the area via email at Derek.Thomas.MP@parliament.uk
If you have specific questions to ask senior Government figures I will consider them carefully and see what I can do to get the information you require.
