Abigail Birch ‘I’m a dwarf and I’m fast’

Over the past year I’ve made some good friends at the Coach House in Penzance.

The young people who live there held an open day on Wednesday and the place was buzzing. I was introduced to Abigail who was helping her mum on a stall (also a friend of the Coach House). Abigail is 13 years old and has a Rare form of Dwarfism called Hypochrondroplasia. She hopes to attend World Dwarf Games 2017 in Canada and is raising funds to pay for the trip.

The Coach House is a small group of properties that provide homes for 16 to 24 year olds. The staff support them and help to develop life skills so they can go on into independent living. From time to time I attend their residents meetings to respond to any concerns they raise.
