“Despite the disappointment people rightly feel regarding how the public engagement event at St John’s Hall was organised, I still believe the STP enables the possibility of bringing health and social care together in Cornwall.
“NHS England has said that the STPs must be driven by genuine public engagement so the Cornwall STP team needs to raise its game.
“I want to stress that the integration of health and social care is the only way we can reduce the pressures on Treliske and West Cornwall Hospital, end ‘bed-blocking’ and ensure people are cared for in the most suitable place. The STP is a tool that can enable this to happen which is why I’m keen that, despite the poor ‘consultation’ event on Tuesday, we all engage in this process together.
“I fully accept there are significant financial challenges which will need to be addressed and more money secured if this plan is to have any chance of success. This is my message to Government.”
