After a fairly lengthy battle with cancer, my good friend Rev Bob Senior MBE passed away this morning.
In life you occasionally meet exceptional people who you know will leave a lasting impression long after they have gone. I include Bob Senior in this select group and will miss his cheer, love and straight-forward personality.
I first met Bob and his wife Shirley when I asked them to join the Survivealive Youthworks project that I head up. Together they quickly became close friends with my wife and I and and then joint leaders in this youth project.
What we did not know at the time was that Bob and Shirley would be the ones who wept alongside us in our darkest hour and Bob who would lead the service when our baby boy passed away.
Even in these recent weeks when Bob has been so ill he has been a blessing to all who have called on him and to the staff at St Julia’s Hospice where he was cared for during his weakest moments.
I know that our sense of grief will be shared by many others because in the 15 or so years that Bob and Shirley served the community both in Hayle and Penzance they touched and cared for people of all walks of life and both are deeply loved and appreciated. Bob is lost to us but most of all to Shirley and our prayers and thoughts are with her and her family.
