West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas is urging anyone with an interest in healthcare in West Cornwall to take part in the consultation on radiotherapy services which is currently taking place.
NHS England say they are looking at maximising the effectiveness of £130 million equipment modernisation investment with the creation of 11 regional Radiotherapy Networks across the UK and are proposing a single Radiotherapy Network for all eight providers in the South West, with different levels of service depending on the catchment population of each centre.
This could mean that various radiotherapy cancer treatments may be moved from Cornwall to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth or the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Since hearing about the plans, Mr Thomas has written to Jackie Pendleton, chief executive of the Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group (KCCG), asking for more information.
“I want to ensure that cancer patients in West Cornwall are not placed at a disadvantage when it comes to getting the best radiotherapy treatment possible,” he said.
“To this end, I would encourage everyone to take part in the consultation, which continues until 24th January; either email firstname.lastname@example.org, or write to: Radiotherapy Consultation, NHS England, Floor 3B, Skipton House, 80 London Road, London, SE1 6LH with your views.
