Today a number of influential people representing organisations that are working to support minority groups in the Middle East came to Parliament to meet Parliamentarians and Lords to share the experience of Christians and Yazidis who are being hunted down by Daesh.
It is not clear how many have been brutily murdered or raped but very few remain in Syria and Iraq compared to four or five years ago.
What concerns us is that these minority groups do not register with the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). As a result they are not able to benefit from the support given along the borders of Syria.
I co-sponsored the event. We are pushing Government to take a lead and find ways to get help to these marginalised people and provide sanctuary wherever possible.
