Pendeen Health Fair

Those attending took part in a session run by iCareiMove, an organisation that works to keep older people active

Valuable advice on advice on how to make big savings on winter fuel bills and stay healthy were handed out at a Health and Wellbeing event organised by West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas at the Centre of Pendeen in early November.

A good number of folk enjoyed free coffee and cake as well as advice from around a dozen different organisations including Cornwall Council, Age UK, South West Water, Cornwall Fire Brigade and Disability Cornwall on how to make sure you have everything you need for a warm and comfortable winter.

Among those attending was Pat Taylor, from iCareiMove, a Cornish organisation which delivers inclusive fitness, wellbeing and health programmes. Pat entertained the crowd with a 10-minute exercise work-outs which were suitable for all ages and enjoyed by many of those who came along.

Mr Thomas said: “This was the first time I’ve organised this sort of event in Pendeen and I was delighted that people came along to find out what help is available. I was also glad that so many people were able to enjoy each other’s company and meet the people behind so many fantastic local  community groups.

“It’s clear that more and more people are aware they have to get as much benefit as they can from every penny they spend on gas and electricity and find out how best to stay warm and healthy when the weather gets colder – I’m grateful to everyone, especially the volunteers at the Centre of Pendeen who play a part in making that process a bit easier.”
