West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas is hosting a public meeting next Thursday, 26th April to discuss the future of post office services in Newlyn.
At the meeting, which will take place at The Centre from 7pm, Stuart Taylor and Lewis Horn, from Post Office Ltd, will update residents on what progress is being made in restoring post office services in Newlyn since the closure of the existing post office early in the year.
In February, with local Cornwall councillor Roger Harding, Mr Thomas launched a petition calling for the post office to be re-opened as a matter of urgency.
“The strong response we’ve had to the petition indicates how much the post office is valued in Newlyn and I am committed to working with Roger and the local community to see post office services return to the port as soon as possible,” said Mr Thomas.
“The current situation is not an easy one to resolve but Post Office Ltd have assured me that they too are determined to see services restored in Newlyn and are looking at both temporary and long-term solutions.
“I’m very pleased that Stuart Taylor and Lewis Horn, who are both senior Post Office staff members, are willing to come to Newlyn to discuss the situation and I hope that we will hear some concrete news about services returning to Newlyn.”
