Despite the contents of some of the letters found on the letters page that suggest otherwise, I work hard to be available to constituents and, as in previous years, I am hosting my drop-in events across West Cornwall.
These started on the 9th September and so far have taken place in Penzance, Manaccan, Sennen, Breage, Ashton, St Ives, St Just, Pendeen, Praze, St Erth and Helston. These events continue throughout October and part of November and full details can be found on my Facebook page and at derekthomas.org. If you have an issue or concern you would like to raise with me, please stop by. No appointment necessary.
These are in addition to my regular appointment surgeries that provide a more suitable environment if you wish to meet with me in private. I am also hosting a meeting with EU nationals and their partners in early October. This meeting enables me to maintain a constructive dialogue and two-way conversation with EU nationals and their families as MPs continue to engage in the UK’s withdrawal of membership of the EU. EU nationals make an important contribution to our local community and deserve to have a platform where issues, concerns and questions can be raised. If you are an EU National and would like to attend please contact my office for further details.
Naturally I come across a number of organisations that could do with funds to continue and increase their service to our community. I keep a look out for such funds and one such fund is the Aviva Community Fund which has had successful West Cornwall applicants before. Aviva fund up to £25,000 for local community projects across a range of categories such as skills for life, health & wellbeing and community support. Last year it allocated funding to over 450 groups, including in West Cornwall and this year there is an opportunity for more to be awarded. Applications can be made until 12 noon on 10th October by going to https://www.aviva.co.uk/good-thinking/community-fund/
