Generally speaking I keep activities on a Sunday to a minimum. However I was pleased to officially open the refurbished club house on the Albert Pier in Penzance. The Penzance Sailing Club has a great tradition and I was pleased to meet the many volunteers who keep the activity alive in Penzance. Teaching youngsters to be safe at sea is a worthwhile venture and the facilities are now superb.
I then attended the rededication service of the Fishermen’s Memorial Room at the Ship Institute. The Queen’s Representative, The Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE opened the new memorial room and, as always, the mission’s lovely volunteers served tea and cake. All the names of those who have been lost at sea from the industry since 1948 were read out and their names are on display in the memorial room.
