Cities and Devolution

In the Chamber in the Houses of Parliament we are thrashing out the detail of the Cities and Devolution Bill. This relates to the Cornwall Deal announced by David Cameron in July and gives Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly the best chance yet to tackle head-on the problem of our low wage economy.
It also gifts us with the best opportunity to bring health and social care together in meaningful integration.
It is a huge project for Cornwall and this deal focuses the resources, political will, and expertise of local people in a way that we have not enjoyed in Cornwall and on Scilly before now.
However, there is a suggestion that legislation that governs Sunday trading may also to be devolved to local authorities. Organisations across the UK have raised some concerns regarding this including the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers.
They, like me, believe Sunday trading is a national issue and any proposed legislation should be dealt with in the Houses of Parliament.
