Today I welcomed three members of staff from Alverton Primary School, Penzance to Westminster and the Education Department to meet with Education Minister Nick Gibb. I do what I can to visit a school each week and meet teaching staff and pupils giving them the opportunity to ask any question and raise any concern.
Over the months I have been doing this I have become increasingly concerned about morale amongst teaching staff and invited this representative group to explain, in their words, the tensions and concerns that exist within education.
The group of three include a headteacher, an experienced key stage 2 teacher (age 7 – 11) and a newly qualified teacher.
The Minister was very keen to listen and shared many areas of concern. He has accepted my invitation to come to West Cornwall and meet teachers and respond to their concerns directly.
