Julie Girling MEP joined me on the Isles of Scilly and at my ‘drop-in’ surgeries over the weekend.
During the visit she also met the Youth MP and Deputy, met with the Island Partnership and discussed with council officers the Smart Island initiative. There is an ambition for the islands to generate their own power and to move towards a carbon free existence. This has the potential of reducing living costs for residents on the Isles of Scilly (currently much more expensive than on the mainland) and address the fuel poverty problem that exists there.
MEPs are often criticised for not being accessible. This is not the case with Julie who has regularly accepted my invitation to this constituency.
