West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas hosted a meeting on diabetic footcare at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske recently.
The visit to the hospital was attended by local healthcare professionals, including interventional radiologists, GPs, surgeons, commissioners and nurses, and provided a forum to discuss service improvements and ways to improve the amputation rate in the area.
Mr Thomas, who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Vascular disease, said the meeting proved very useful.
“I am particularly keen to follow up on this to see how I might support ongoing and future initiatives designed to reduce unnecessary lower limb amputations in the area and it was good to get the views of Cornish clinicians and healthcare staff,” he said.
“I was also able to learn more about the various initiatives which are being rolled by RCHT including how the Trust is using the recent award of transformation funding.”
